Notes on optimal audio settings.
In recent times, the latest Windows Mobile devices have been manufactured with a dedicated multimedia audio speaker to improve the volume and quality of audio on these devices.
This new addition to windows mobile devices calls for a little clarification in regards to how to use SecureGSM applications effectively with new devices.
For the majority of new devices, the multimedia speaker is located on the rear (back) of the device. Because the sound rendered during a secure call must be routed to the multimedia speaker,
it is important to understand that, during a SecureGSM call, the multimedia speaker should be held to the ear to ensure optimal results.
SecureGSM applications are designed and thoroughly tested to ensure that the audio volume is set to the level of comfort when the multimedia speaker is held directly to the operator’s ear.
To identify the location of the multimedia speaker on your device, please visit the Product Compatibility Selector on the SecureGSM Web site. The selector displays optimal audio settings for your device, together with a link for information regarding the location of
the multimedia speaker. You can also click on the pircture of your device to display this information.
Note: the use of the standard phone speaker for SecureGSM calls is not possible due to the hardware design of devices, which prevents us from routing the audio signal to that speaker.
Please review the following from our Frequently Asked Questions:
While in a SecureGSM call, I have noticed that the sound is coming out of the multimedia speaker of the device instead of phone speaker. Is this normal?
Yes, this is normal and is so by design. SecureGSM utilize the data channel for transmission of encrypted voice and data. Therefore upon successful delivery to your device, the voice signal is back converted to an audio stream and played back through the multimedia audio speaker.
SecureGSM products are designed with audio volume in mind, which is set to the level of comfort when the device is held with multimedia speaker directly to the operator ear. This mode of operation has been thoroughly tested.
In most cases, the multimedia speaker is mounted on the rear (back) of the device. Hold this speaker to you ear instead of the normal phone speaker. Sound quality and volume is excellent when used in this way.
How do I identify the location of the multimedia speaker on my device?
To identify the location of the multimedia speaker on your device, please visit the appropriate “Compatible Devices” section of the SecureGSM Web site, and click on an image of your device for an illustration and information on optimal audio settings.
I am considering using a wired headset provided with the device. Will using the wired headset address my concerns of sound coming form multimedia speaker?
Yes, use of the wired headset will completely address your concerns. Some other functional and security improvements associated with the use of a wired headset are:
- Improved echo cancellation
- Better privacy while communicating in public places as well as in noisy or windy conditions.
- Please note: use of wired headset is optional and not a requirement.
Is it necessary for me to use a wired headset while in SecureGSM call?
No, you do not have to use wired headset unless this is more comfortable for you. SecureGSM device volume and microphone settings have been designed to provide optimal audio performance when the device is used without a wired headset connected (attached).
