What is the difference between Windows Mobile Smartphone and Windows Mobile Phone Enabled (Pocket PC) devices?
Smartphone
These devices are usually of what is called “candy bar” design and are small, lightweight and resemble a typical mobile phone in size, shape, weight and functionality. Smartphones are primarily mobile phones with some Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) functionality, such as being able to receive, send and synchronise emails with a desktop computer.
Smartphones have a traditional telephone style keypad for information input and do not include some of the PDA programs such as Word Mobile, Excel Mobile and PowerPoint Mobile while Windows Mobile Phone Enabled (Pocket PC) devices do.
Windows Mobile Phone Enabled (Pocket PC)
These devices are primarily Personal Digital Assistants (PDA’s), usually of a larger form factor than a Smartphone. These devices offer the convenience of a large touch screen with stylus and some have built in keyboards. These are usually more powerful devices and ship with a larger set of software from Microsoft, including Word Mobile, Excel Mobile and PowerPoint Mobile.
